Choosy Moms Choose Dizzy

I’m so excited to blog that my third picture book, Dizzy, was just chosen as a silver recipient in the 2008 Moms Choice Awards. What an honor! These awards are such an out of the blue thing. You hope to win them, hope really hard. But when it actually happens, it’s always such a huge surprise. There are so many good books out there. The competition is stiff.

For those of you who haven’t met him, Dizzy is pacific white-sided dolphin. He’s faster than a speedboat. Able leap ocean waves in a single bound. But he can’t quite get the sitting still thing down. Until he misses one halibut of an afternoon meal.

I had a lot of fun writing the book. It’s inspired about my thinking outside of the box five year old. When asked one day what she wanted to be when she grew up, she said a banana. Go figure. She’s got some ideas. But the real idea behind the book came from watching her run circles around the house. Nonstop. All. Day. Long. When I wasn’t cursing my aching legs, I realized her crazy romps reminded me a little of myself, albeit much younger. I definitely had the wiggles when I was a kid, too. What kid doesn’t? I thought it would be fun to write about.

I guess a few moms could relate to the energy and excitement Dizzy brings to readers, as well as the solution he finds to channel his craziness for good, rather than evil. Thank you Moms Choice Award judges!
